The essentials
Is the app really free?
Yes. Embarkation is free, with no subscription and no ads. When you book an excursion through our GetYourGuide partner links, Embarkation may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you.
Which devices does Embarkation work on?
On iPhone and iPad (App Store), on Android (Google Play) and in a web browser, at app.embarkation.app. Your account is the same everywhere: your cruises, your crew and your memories follow you from one device to another. Only the packing list and the bingo card stay on the device where you fill them in.
Do I need an account?
To explore the cruises in the catalogue and the ship map, no. To add your cruise, invite your crew, keep your memories and collect stamps, yes: a free account is all it takes.
How do I sign in?
With your Apple, Google or Facebook account, or with your email address and a password. Forgot your password? The sign-in screen emails you a link to choose a new one.
Which languages is the app available in?
French and English. The app follows the language of your phone, and you can change it in the passport’s Settings.
Weather, packing and excursions
Where does the weather at the ports come from?
From Open-Meteo data. More than 5 days before a port of call, Embarkation shows the seasonal averages: the usual weather on that date, worked out over the last ten years. Five days before the port, the real forecast takes over.
Can I trust the packing tips?
They’re written by artificial intelligence from the itinerary, the dates and the weather at your ports, without any personal data. As long as the weather relies on seasonal averages, they say so and stay cautious. Five days before a port, they follow the forecast and become definite, along the lines of “leave the puffer jacket at home”. They remain a guide: also follow your cruise line’s instructions.
How do excursions work?
For each port of call, Embarkation suggests ideas suited to your time ashore and shows real activities from our partner GetYourGuide. You book on GetYourGuide, under its terms. These are partner links: Embarkation may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you, and passes no personal data to GetYourGuide.
What if my excursion gets back late?
On an excursion you booked yourself, getting back on board is your responsibility: always check the all-aboard time, as a ship doesn’t wait for latecomers.
Explore and quote requests
Where do the cruises and prices in Explore come from?
They’re collected automatically every day from cruise lines and agencies. They’re indicative prices per person and may change: the final price is confirmed in the quote.
Who answers my quote request?
Our partner travel agency. It checks availability and replies by email, usually within 2 business days. The quote is free, with no commitment. Embarkation doesn’t sell trips: if you book, your contract is with the agency.
What information is passed on to the agency?
Only with your consent, given by ticking the box provided: the chosen cruise, the number of passengers, the preferred cabin, whether your dates are flexible, your message, your name, your email and, if you provide it, your phone number. We keep the request for three years at most, to follow up on the quote.
Crew, memories and privacy
What is the crew?
Your travel companions. They join your cruise with an invitation code or a link, then share the logbook and the memories with you. Whoever created the cruise is its captain and can remove a member.
Who can see my memories?
The crew of the cruise, or only you: you choose “My crew” or “Only me” for each memory. Your memories are never public.
Is my passport public?
No, only you can see it. If you share its image, it shows your first name and last initial, your rank, your counters, your stamps and an invitation QR code.
What does “passengers met” mean? Do other people know I was on board?
It’s the number of Embarkation members who had a cruise on the same ship, on the same dates as you. Only this number is shown, never names. To appear in a ship’s passenger list, you have to opt in by turning on “Visible to other cruisers” in your profile: only your first name, the initial of your last name, your photo and your bio are then visible, never your email.
Does Embarkation know where I am?
No. The map’s “Locate me” button uses your location only on your phone, without sending it to our servers. The positions shown are those of ships, from public AIS signals.
Referrals and ranks
How do ranks work?
Everyone who creates an account with your invite link moves you up: Deckhand from 1 friend, Boatswain at 3, First mate at 5, Captain at 10, Commodore at 25 and Admiral at 50. Bringing a new member into your cruise crew counts too. An invitation only counts once, for a new account.
Do ranks earn me anything?
The pride of wearing your stripes, nothing more: ranks are symbolic and come with no rewards. They show on your passport and on the image you share.
Account and data
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Passport tab, then Settings, then “Delete my account”. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your profile, your photo, your memories, the ships you follow and the cruises where you’re the only member are erased. Can’t access your account any more? Write to contact@embarkation.app.
Can I get a copy of my data?
Yes. Write to contact@embarkation.app to receive a copy of your data, or to have it corrected or erased. All your rights are set out in the privacy policy.
Where is my data stored?
With OVHcloud, on a server located in Canada, a country recognised by the European Commission as providing data protection equivalent to that of the European Union.
How can I contact you?
Through the contact form or at contact@embarkation.app. We’re also on Facebook and Instagram.
